The SkillBridge Program at HDO Health is designed to provide service member(s) with the experience of partnering with a company founder and CEO as well as other founding team members in scaling a start-up medical device company and commercializing a life-saving medical device. The participants should expect to gain experience, skills, and knowledge related (but not limited to) the following - market research utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methodologies; business formation- legal, regulatory, tax, and other requirements, processes, and policies; product development - working to move product from prototype phase to final testing and FDA 510(k) clearance; capital raising - exposure to research, planning, and execution of a capital access plan; marketing and business development - will provide a front-row seat to real-world planning and execution on all aspects of company branding, marketing, sales, marketing, and business development; administration and team facilitation - exposure to all company infrastructure, technology, finance, administration, etc. required to start and scale a company including regular interaction with company founders, investors, advisors, customers, partners, and HDO Health's start-up accelerator sponsor, Rev1 Ventures.

ABOUT THE JOB

This role could lead to a variety of roles depending on the background, education, interest, and experience of the participant. This role could lead to a role in another start-up company in operations, business development, design, finance, product development, marketing, communications, strategy, or virtually any aspect of scaling a company. For technical applicants, this role could lead to a job in product development and design, regulatory planning, manufacturing, etc. For more business oriented participants, this role has virtually unlimited potential to provide experiences, exposure and network for a variety of roles.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partnering with company founder and CEO in scaling a start-up medical device company
  • Commercializing a life-saving medical device
  • Market research utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methodologies
  • Business formation including legal, regulatory, tax, and other requirements
  • Product development from prototype phase to final testing and FDA 510(k) clearance
  • Capital raising including research, planning, and execution of a capital access plan
  • Marketing and business development including company branding, sales, and marketing execution
  • Administration and team facilitation including interaction with company founders, investors, advisors, customers, and partners

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work independently in a hybrid or completely virtual role
  • Adaptability to adjust to the evolving demands and needs of the company as it scales
  • Appetite to learn and contribute across a wide array of functions, topics, and activities
  • U.S. citizenship

OTHER

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a start-up medical device company. The Founder/CEO is a former USMC infantry officer. The other co-founders include a Ph.D. biomechanical engineering professor, a surgeon who is also a SWAT medic, and a member of the Ohio State Highway Patrol special response unit and SWAT medic. The participant will become part of the founding team during their internship and could potentially transition to a full-time role in the future depending on internship success, future company growth, and other factors including subsequent fundraising and commercialization success. The CEO lives in the Birmingham, AL area and the other founders live in the Columbus and central/northern OH area. The team meets regularly virtually and also in person in Columbus, OH.
