CGJROTC
This opportunity will provide Coast Guard men and women (retiring, RELAD, SELRES mbrs) who meet basic eligibility criteria and are interested in teaching and mentoring high school students in the areas of citizenship, community service, responsibility, and self-discipline, the opportunity to observe and assist with maritime science instruction as a CGJROTC Instructor intern. CGJROTC Instructor Interns serve as role models to students, instilling citizenship, responsibility, and a deep appreciation for the Coast Guard and service to our nation. The program is designed as a 21-26 week, student-teaching-like internship, but the applicant and host unit instructor can modify the internship length, as the situation warrants. This position is in-person and requires the applicant to live within a commutable distance from the school. Serving as a CGJROTC Instructor Intern presents challenging but fulfilling vocational opportunities for Coast Guard retirees, veterans, and reservists. The goal of successful completion of the internship is to obtain a CGJROTC Instructor Certification.

ABOUT THE JOB
As Instructor Interns employed through the SkillBridge program, Instructor Interns work under the direct supervision of the SMSI and/or the MSI; during non-Federal school holidays, Instructor Interns shall report to the SkillBridge Program Manager. With the assistance/guidance of the SMSI/MSI, CGJROTC Instructor Interns observe/conduct academic classes during the regular school day but also supervise co-curricular activities after regular school hours. Instructor Interns perform duties, accept responsibilities, and meet standards as prescribed by the SMSI/MSI and adhere to all applicable Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Coast Guard and CGJROTC policies. Under the supervision of the SMSI/MSI, Instructor Interns will supervise/instruct cadets participating in official CGJROTC unit events, CGJROTC community service events, and other unit activities (e.g., drill competitions, curriculum-in-action trips, and base visits) that enhance or supplement the program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
