This program is intended for individuals who bring prior experience in construction, engineering, or project-based roles. It is not an entry-level training program, but rather an opportunity to translate existing skills into the heavy civil construction industry through hands-on project experience. The AIS Infrastructure Project Engineer SkillBridge Program is an immersive, hands-on training experience designed to prepare transitioning service members for careers in heavy civil construction. Participants will gain practical exposure to project engineering functions including project coordination, cost tracking, scheduling, field operations support, safety compliance, and quality control.This program provides direct mentorship from experienced project managers and field leadership while working on active infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, utilities, and large-scale civil construction. Participants will develop the technical and operational skills required to successfully transition into a full-time Project Engineer role within the construction industry.
Participants in the Project Engineer SkillBridge Program will support active construction projects and gain experience in the following areas:• Assist with project planning, scheduling, and coordination of daily construction activities • Support cost tracking, budgeting, and change order management • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents • Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure project alignment • Maintain project documentation including daily reports, RFIs, submittals, and progress tracking • Monitor compliance with safety standards and assist in implementing site-specific safety plans • Participate in quality control processes and field inspections • Support procurement and material tracking efforts • Assist with reporting tools and systems (e.g., HCSS, Vista, project tracking software) • Attend project meetings and contribute to problem-solving and operational decision-making Throughout the program, participants will receive mentorship from project leadership and gain exposure to real-world construction challenges, preparing them for a full-time Project Engineer role upon completion.
• Ability to work in a field-based, construction environment • Willingness to travel and/or relocate based on project needs • Basic proficiency with construction drawings, scheduling, or project coordination preferred • Strong communication and organizational skills • Ability to obtain any required site access credentials or clearances • Valid driver’s license required Preferred:• Prior experience in construction, engineering, or project-based roles • Exposure to project management tools or construction software is a plus
