The Athletics Communications Specialist will assist the Athletics Communications staff and report to the Associate Athletic Director for Communications, assisting in critical offseason projects in preparation for fall and winter sports. These include extensive work on the Athletic Department website (goeags.com) and comprehensive media guides for each sport sponsored by Eastern Washington University. This position will also do graphic design work, interviews, media relations, community events and historical archiving. They will work closely with the Athletics Communications staff as well as the Athletics Marketing and Creative staff on projects to support student-athletes and coaches. The position will afford the applicant opportunities to learn writing and research skills while interacting with key stakeholders, department leaders and media outlets. Other assignments may be provided as opportunities arise.

ABOUT THE JOB

Responsibilities: Update and maintain Athletics website, including informational pages, schedules, rosters, bios and directories, with focus on user experience and readibility. Research, compose and edit content for comprehensive sport media guides, such as annual football or basketball 'fact books'. Properly transition and archive results and other data for historical record. Support Athletics Communications and Marketing staff at summer events, including logistical set-up, fan stewardship and debrief strategizing. Research, compose and edit stories for Athletics website and social media outlets. Grow and maintain the Athletics social media accounts, including the department accounts and individual sports. Develop a cohesive student employee onboarding and training guide. Key projects: Web management and user experience. Comprehensive media guides. Written human interest stories highlighting EWU student-athletes and coaches.

RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent verbal, organizational and writing skills.
  • Basic interview skills.
  • Project management.
  • Basic knowledge of sports terminology, strategy and statistics.
  • Familiarity with AP style is a bonus.
  • Familiarity with writing and distributing news/media releases is a bonus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY
