Bowhead is offering a SkillBridge internship opportunity for transitioning service members interested in civil engineering. This program provides hands-on training alongside experienced engineers supporting the U.S. Coast Guard Civil Engineering Unit (CEU) in Juneau, Alaska. Interns will gain exposure to a variety of projects across the 17th Coast Guard District (D17), which covers the Alaska maritime region.This internship is designed to help service members transition into civilian engineering careers by providing experience in project planning, design, facility assessments, and technical reviews in real-world maritime and arctic conditions.
Assisting with project scope development, cost estimating, and scheduling.Supporting field investigations and facility condition assessments.Shadowing technical reviews of studies, reports, designs, and specifications.Learning how to provide engineering support and troubleshooting to project managers.Gaining exposure to Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build processes.Collaborating with engineers, architects, construction managers, and contractors to understand how complex civil engineering challenges are resolved.Observing site visits in the unique D17 environment, including high-seismic, coastal, and high-wind conditions.
• Requires a minimum of five (5+) years of work experience in the civil engineering field and BA/BS degree in related field. Ten (10+) years of experience and MA/MS degree in related field preferred. • Must have demonstrated mastery of civil engineering concepts, principles, and practices. • Experience in National Codes and Mechanical Engineering sub-disciplines (including heating, air conditioning, ventilation, plumbing, fuel systems, tanks, pumps, piping, steam, and minor structural, etc.) is required. • Licensed Professional Engineer or other industry-standard professional license related to position highly desirable.
