This SkillBridge opportunity offers transitioning service members a hands-on, immersive experience in crime prevention, youth program coordination, and community engagement. Participants will work closely with law enforcement professionals in Brawley, CA, to design and support community-based initiatives aimed at reducing crime and empowering local youth.Through mentorship, classroom instruction, and direct fieldwork, interns will contribute to programs such as the Police Explorer Program, Boxing Academy, Soccer Clubs (FC and MLS), and the Police E-Sports Academy.
ABOUT THE JOB
The Brawley Police Department is offering a SkillBridge internship opportunity for transitioning service members to gain real-world experience in crime prevention, youth development, and community engagement. This role is ideal for service members interested in pursuing a civilian career in public service, law enforcement, nonprofit youth services, or community outreach.Interns will play a key role in supporting and improving youth-focused programs and helping build safer, stronger community relationships through proactive education and collaboration.Key Responsibilities:Assist with the planning, development, and delivery of crime prevention initiatives and youth engagement programsSupport and help facilitate existing youth programs, including:Police Explorer ProgramBoxing AcademyFC & MLS Soccer ClubsPolice E-Sports AcademyCollaborate with School Resource Officers (SROs), Crime Prevention Coordinators, and Community Liaison Officers on school-based and after-school programmingConduct or co-host educational sessions on safety, bullying prevention, conflict resolution, and internet awarenessEngage directly with youth, parents, and community partners during events and workshopsAssist in program evaluation, including survey development and data collectionShadow department leadership and participate in planning meetings and outreach events
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the planning, development, and delivery of crime prevention initiatives and youth engagement programs
- Support and help facilitate existing youth programs, including: Police Explorer Program, Boxing Academy, FC & MLS Soccer Clubs, Police E-Sports Academy
- Collaborate with School Resource Officers (SROs), Crime Prevention Coordinators, and Community Liaison Officers on school-based and after-school programming
- Conduct or co-host educational sessions on safety, bullying prevention, conflict resolution, and internet awareness
- Engage directly with youth, parents, and community partners during events and workshops
- Assist in program evaluation, including survey development and data collection
- Shadow department leadership and participate in planning meetings and outreach events
QUALIFICATIONS
- Active duty service member eligible for DoD SkillBridge participation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Leadership experience and a passion for youth mentorship
- Ability to work in a team and community-focused environment
- Willingness to learn and engage in hands-on training
- Public speaking or instructional experience is a plus
- Interest in law enforcement, education, or nonprofit program work
