Chaplain Chaplain Service Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center Veterans Health Administration Internship
This position is in the Chaplain’s Office at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina. The Intern will work as a team member under the direct supervision of the Chief of Chaplains or designee to perform a range of supervised clinical chaplaincy-specific duties. The intern will gain clinical chaplaincy skills useful across the spectrum of inpatient and outpatient care, to include conducting spiritual assessments and providing pastoral visits on the medical/surgical wards, the Intensive Care Unit, Inpatient Mental Health, and in various outpatient clinics. Additionally, the intern will become familiar with electronic healthcare documentation methods/requirements, will learn about serving on various teams and committees, and will work with other chaplains to design spiritual support groups and worship events which meet the needs of the healthcare setting. The ability to function in an ecumenical environment is critical to all aspects of this work.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work as a team member under the direct supervision of the Chief of Chaplains or designee to perform a range of supervised clinical chaplaincy-specific duties.
- Conduct spiritual assessments and provide pastoral visits on the medical/surgical wards, the Intensive Care Unit, Inpatient Mental Health, and in various outpatient clinics.
- Become familiar with electronic healthcare documentation methods/requirements.
- Learn about serving on various teams and committees.
- Work with other chaplains to design spiritual support groups and worship events which meet the needs of the healthcare setting.

- Evidence of Master of Divinity degree or equivalent
- Ecclesiastical endorsement dated within 12 months of applying
- Completed at least four units of Clinical Pastoral Education in a program accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education or the Institute for Clinical Pastoral Training
