Nutrition and Food Services- Clinical Dietician - Job training program

This program is for transitioning service members who have already achieved their credentials as a registered or licensed dietitian. The program will introduce the student to the various types of clinical nutrition positions within the Veterans Healthcare Administration. Dietitians will rotate throughout the various positions and will conclude the last 4 weeks by providing Veteran care in a currently vacant RDN position.

ABOUT THE JOB

1. Outpatient – Providing consultation, assessment, and education for Veterans and their caregivers with a variety of diseases that require nutrition intervention or dietary adjustments as part of the treatment plan for healing. This is done in an office outpatient setting or through telehealth.2. Inpatient - Providing consultation, assessment, internal and parental nutrition recommendations, and education for Veterans and their caregivers with a variety of diseases that require nutrition intervention or dietary adjustments as part of the treatment plan for healing. This work is done in an acute care or assisted living facility.3. Home-based Care - Providing consultation, assessment, and education for Veterans and their caregivers with a variety of diseases that require nutrition intervention or dietary adjustments as part of the treatment plan for healing. This is done in the Veteran’s home. Follow-up care can be provided through telehealth or telephonically.4. Specialty advanced practice/Nutrition programs (MOVE, Whole Health, Food Security, Healthy Teaching Kitchen)

RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a transitioning service member.
• Must have credentials as a registered or licensed dietitian.

OTHER

The RDN training plan is designed for a provider who is already credentialed and practices dietetics in the DoD setting. The main grading plan to determine the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for this training plan will be a records review using the facility’s peer or supervisor review grading scale. These are required by hospital accreditation programs and must be in place at every facility. However, each facility can establish the graded review according to the local policy. Each facility will conduct the review and provide the score and feedback as part of the final training documentation. Documentation and care review must meet a minimum of successful for the Student to be considered for the position.
