Candidates for this and every DoD SkillBridge internship opportunity with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are able to intern for 180, 120, and 90 days and MUST be at least 12 MONTHS away from (outside of) separation. Why 12 months? We are able to host SkillBridge interns for their final 180, 120, and/or 90 days on active-duty depending on the individual service-member’s situation. We use the time prior to their finite internship dates to complete our required HR actions to include getting them in front of hiring managers, having interviews conducted, selection decisions being made, “Qualifications Reviews” successfully completed on their resumes clearly demonstrating that they have the required experience, etc. for the positions for which they are being considered, along with a 3 to 5 month (on average) full CBP Background Investigation (BI) that MUST be completed prior to internship start dates.MAJOR DUTIESTroubleshoots, repairs and/or overhauls major components and systems such as engines, transmissions, differentials and transaxles, electronic fuel injection systems. emission control systems, and related electrical, electronic, hydraulic, fuel, and other assemblies. Your job will include:Performing basic preventive maintenance on automobiles, light trucks; ATVs, UTVs, other vehicles and equipment.Making independent judgement and determining the type and extent of repairs needed, completing repairs with little or no check during and upon completion.Completing repairs and adjustments in accordance with manufacturers specifications and ensuring vehicle systems function in accordance with safety regulations.Troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, adjusting, and performing operational check on a wide variety of major components and systems.Machining/resurfacing brake drums/rotors; testing braking systems; repairing/rebuilding braking systems.Diagnosing computer problems affecting engine performance; troubleshooting engine mechanical status; identifying engine status.Troubleshooting, inspecting, and replacing belts, pulleys, fans, clutches, and tension systems; charging systems; fuel systems; exhaust systems; transmissions; major and minor engine components.Identifying and diagnosing body or frame problems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Troubleshoots, repairs and/or overhauls major components and systems such as engines, transmissions, differentials and transaxles, electronic fuel injection systems, emission control systems, and related electrical, electronic, hydraulic, fuel, and other assemblies.
  • Performing basic preventive maintenance on automobiles, light trucks, ATVs, UTVs, other vehicles and equipment.
  • Making independent judgement and determining the type and extent of repairs needed, completing repairs with little or no check during and upon completion.
  • Completing repairs and adjustments in accordance with manufacturers specifications and ensuring vehicle systems function in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, adjusting, and performing operational check on a wide variety of major components and systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates must be at least 12 MONTHS away from separation from service.
  • Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance and complete repairs in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.
  • Capability to make independent judgments on the type and extent of repairs needed.
