The SkillBridge participant will fill the role of Duty Officer in the Bridger Operations Center while simultaneously progressing through the company’s pilot training curriculums. As a Duty Officer, the participant assists the Operations Center Manager in monitoring daily operations, coordinating logistics for pilot and maintenance crews, preparing and delivering daily operational briefs, managing dispatch communications, and tracking aircraft and ground support equipment. The Duty Officer position is a communications hub for the entire company and provides direct, daily exposure to aviation operations in the aerial firefighting industry.
Bridger Aerospace is an aerial firefighting company headquartered at the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (KBZN) in Belgrade, Montana. Founded in 2014, Bridger supports front-line wildland firefighters with aerial fire suppression, air attack coordination, and multi-mission sensor platforms. The company operates the largest Super Scooper fleet in the United States alongside single-engine and multi-engine turboprop aircraft.This program is structured as an Internship / Pre-Apprenticeship under the DoD SkillBridge framework. As an internship, it provides on-the-job, pre-entry-level work experience within the aerial firefighting and commercial aviation industry, developing acclimation and general knowledge that may lead to full-time employment. As a pre-apprenticeship, it offers an overview of the trade—including qualifications, skills, on-the-job training, and related instruction—designed to prepare the Service member for entry into a career pathway beyond the post-transition period. The program is completed during the SkillBridge window and places the participant on a direct pathway to full-time employment with Bridger Aerospace upon separation from active duty.The SkillBridge participant will fill the role of Duty Officer in the Bridger Operations Center while simultaneously progressing through the company’s pilot training curriculums. The Duty Officer position is a communications hub for the entire company and provides direct, daily exposure to aviation operations in the aerial firefighting industry.The participant will have opportunity to complete Bridger Aerospace’s ground pilot training curriculum per the company’s FAA-approved Training Program Manual (TPM). This training follows the same Part 135 initial new hire syllabus used for all Bridger pilots and includes computer-based indoctrination (Training Boom), classroom ground school, aircraft systems training, HAZMAT, emergency procedures, CRM, and flight training in a company single-engine turboprop. Upon completion, the participant will be checked out as a Part 91 Resource Pilot. In this capacity, the participant may fly company aircraft for non-revenue Part 91 operations such as repositioning flights, maintenance ferry flights, and logistical support—but will not fly the line on contract and will not deploy to field rotations. This positions the participant for a seamless transition to full Part 135 line pilot status upon hire.
