We strive to train and hire military veterans into our Government Contracting Construction Management business as Estimators in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. The entire 12 weeks of the internship will take place in either Lexington, KY (STI Headquarters), or Valdosta, GA (Southeast Division office), with several visits to various job sites in KY, TN, and/or GA (some opportunities exist in AL, FL, and IN when conditions allow).

ABOUT THE JOB

OverviewThe Level II Estimator is responsible for successful execution of cost estimating and establishing project direct costs on single discipline and multidiscipline projects via receiving subcontractor and vendor proposals and preparing detailed take-offs for self-performance of varied trades. Objective/Purpose The Level II Estimator will help support the preconstruction team by establishing direct cost estimates and estimating change orders on moderate to highly complex projects. Responsibilities may include estimating all levels of projects and take-offs. Establishing subcontractor relationships and qualifying vendors. The Level II Estimators will perform detailed take-offs and establish self-performance budget costs. The Level II Estimator will qualify teaming partners and prepare teaming arrangements for approval. Roles/Responsibilities• During Bid Phaseo Receive, file, and distribute design documents to internal team members, vendors, and subcontractors.o With attention to detail, review project documents to gain a thorough understanding of scope of work to bid.o Generate and submit Requests for Information (RFI’s) to the project owner representative.o Solicit and Coordinate subcontractor bid lists for budget pricing and bidding.o Attend pre-bid meetings and subcontractor site walk-throughs.o Visit sites to evaluate existing conditions and identify and capture any scope that may not be included in the design documents.o Perform quantity take-offs, analysis, estimate, and studies for all assigned trades and building systems.o Prepare subcontractor bid proposal forms and subcontractor bid recording sheets for assigned trades. Evaluate subcontractor input for scope inclusion.o Evaluate and analyze received bids for completeness and with consideration for exclusions and exceptions.o Identify scope gaps and overlaps. o Ensure pricing within the estimate is complete and accurate, reflecting recent pricing data, subcontractor bids or budgets.o Lead the coordination of operational input during the estimating, bidding, and Budget establishment process. o Ensure that the detailed General Conditions list is incorporated into the estimate.o Provide pricing for value engineering, alternates, options, and special studies as required.o Support the assembly of all estimates, bid or NTE documents required by and submitted to the Owner.o Prepare for review Lump Sum, T&M, NTE Bids • After Award Phase o Review Activities List and durations for pre-construction schedules.o Prepare vendor reviews and create assessment reports. • Post Construction o Participate in postmortem project reviews.o Approve Vendor List modifications based on postmortem.

RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to multitask and meet established deadlines.
  • Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions, trade practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel Spreadsheet proficiency.
  • Minimum 7 years of related construction experience with a minimum of 5 years in estimating.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY

Skills Preferred: • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management or related field or equivalent work experience in Construction OperationsCertifications: OSHA 30, CPR 1st Aid, • Complete knowledge of the estimating documents and the ability to provide accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of the documents.• Proficient in Sage Estimating software, formerly Timberline.• Experience with Construction Management Software such as Procore ERP Accounting • Proficient with Schedule Logic and P6.• Minimum 7 years of related construction experience with a minimum of 5 years in estimating. • Proficient in Takeoff software.• Proficient in estimating software platforms. • Experience bidding federal and state issued solicitations. OTHER

Physical DemandsPerformance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud. The proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) will be required when exposed to the above conditions in accordance with OSHA and other applicable safety provisions.
