Drill & Blast Skillbridge Program
A Rock Drill Operator operates pneumatic or hydraulic drilling equipment to bore holes in rock for blasting or other excavation work. They play a crucial role in mining, tunneling, and construction projects, ensuring safe and precise drilling to support blasting or rock removal operations. A Certified Blaster is a skilled professional licensed to use explosives for breaking rock in construction, mining, or demolition projects. Their expertise ensures that blasting operations are executed safely, effectively, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
ABOUT THE JOB
Operate and maintain drilling equipment including jackleg, stoper, and jumbo drills. Drill holes in rock for blasting or anchoring in accordance with specified patterns.Interpret drilling plans and follow safety protocols and geological specifications.Inspect drill bits and replace worn parts as needed.Monitor drilling operations to ensure depth, angle, and diameter accuracy.Conduct routine maintenance and report any mechanical issues.Work closely with blasters and other crew members to coordinate activities.Adhere to safety regulations and use personal protective equipment (PPE).Plan and design blast patterns based on geological assessments.Handle, store, and transport explosives in accordance with legal and safety guidelines.Charge and detonate blast holes in coordination with site plans.Inspect blast areas before and after detonation for safety.Maintain accurate records of explosive usage and blasting logs.Communicate with supervisors, engineers, and drilling teams.Enforce strict safety measures to protect personnel and property.Respond to emergencies or misfires with appropriate protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Blaster license
- Ability to travel as required in Idaho, Montana, Washington, and Oregon
