The Inspector Building Codes Trainee position is a full-time position. It is to prepare an individual to become a NC certified multi-trained Building Official. Position will be required to inspect residential and commercial construction under the current NC Building Codes, which include building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical construction. In addition, this position must be well versed in the NC General Statutes concerning local government and building codes and to be able to defend their position for decisions they make.
Position pathway for Trainee overview:This is an overview of the trainee position, it is for individuals with a background in construction work; defined as Building, Electrical, Mechanical & Plumbing. Background means documented construction training or have any inspection certifications, or any state license, or training in a local or state apprenticeship programs, or higher education such as engineering degrees. The Planning Department and the Inspections division have a Code Enforcement Career path document which will provide information concerning the progression and pay increases according to budget and meeting our annual evaluation process. The goal is to be a multi-trained building official that can reach top levels of certification in all our previously noted trades. A copy will be provided once accepted into the program.
