This SkillBridge internship is a vehicle maintenance training program designed to transition service members into fully certified Ground Mobility Vehicle (GMV 1.1) Field Service Representative. Participants receive hands-on technical instruction across all major vehicle systems, culminating in a recognized maintainer certification. The program is structured into six progressive training phases:Phase 1 – Fundamentals, Safety & Documentation (Weeks 1–4): Shop safety, HAZMAT handling, technical manual interpretation, PMCS documentation, fluid systems, and basic electrical theory.Phase 2 – Engine, Fuel & Powertrain (Weeks 5–8): Engine PMCS, ECM/ECU diagnostics, fuel systems, transmission service, drivetrain, and axle maintenance.Phase 3 – Electrical, Communications & HVAC (Weeks 9–13): 24V electrical systems, CAN bus diagnostics, C4ISR integration, lighting, and HVAC maintenance.Phase 4 – Chassis, Suspension & Mobility (Weeks 14–17): Suspension, brake systems, steering, tire/wheel service, and Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS).Phase 5 – Tactical Body & Field Recovery (Weeks 18–20): Frame/body inspection, weapon mount maintenance, and winch/recovery systems.Phase 6 – Advanced Diagnostics & Final Certification (Weeks 21–24): Complex fault isolation, field-expedient repair scenarios, comprehensive PMCS, and a final written and practical capstone exam. The daily schedule runs 0800–1700 and includes briefings, lecture/theory blocks, and extended hands-on lab time.
Position: Ground Mobility Vehicle (GMV 1.1) Field Service Representative (FSR)Type: Full-Time / Contract (Transitional / Post-Certification)SummaryThe GMV 1.1 FSR is responsible for performing Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS), advanced diagnostics, and field-expedient repairs on the Ground Mobility Vehicle 1.1 across all major vehicle systems. This role requires both technical proficiency and the ability to operate effectively in austere or tactical environments.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly PMCS in accordance with applicable Technical Manuals (TMs).Diagnose and repair faults across engine, powertrain, electrical, chassis, suspension, brake, steering, and HVAC systems.Utilize ECM/ECU diagnostic software and CAN bus tools to read, interpret, and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).Perform removal and replacement (R&R) of drivetrain, suspension, steering, and brake components.Maintain and troubleshoot 24V electrical systems, including batteries, alternators, starters, and wiring harnesses.Support maintenance and integration of C4ISR communication equipment and associated power/grounding systems.Operate and maintain the Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) and run-flat inserts.Inspect and maintain weapon mounts, gun rings, and turret mechanisms.Operate the vehicle winch system and perform recovery operations using proper rigging techniques.Execute field-expedient repairs to restore vehicle mobility under limited-resource conditions.Accurately complete maintenance request forms, work orders, and PMCS records per applicable standards.Required Skills & KnowledgeProficiency in Technical Manual (TM) navigation and maintenance documentationWorking knowledge of 24V vehicle electrical systems and circuit diagnosticsExperience with multimeter use, wire diagram interpretation, and CAN bus diagnostic toolsUnderstanding of diesel/JP-8 fuel systems, including injectors, pumps, and filtersAbility to perform brake, suspension, and steering component R&RFamiliarity with HVAC systems (R-134a or equivalent) and CTIS operationKnowledge of HAZMAT handling, PPE requirements, and shop safety procedures
