Crux Wilderness
The Crux Wilderness DoD SkillBridge program offers a specialized 120-day training course for service members interested in becoming professional rock climbing guides. This program combines technical climbing skills, safety training, leadership, and wilderness navigation to prepare participants for roles in outdoor recreation and guiding.The Climbing Guide Trainee program provides hands-on training in technical climbing and client management, equipping participants with the skills to lead safe, enjoyable climbing experiences. This includes developing risk assessment abilities, technical proficiency, and communication skills critical for guiding.
ABOUT THE JOB
Climbing Safety & Protocols: Equipment usage, knot tying, and foundational safety practices.Anchoring & Rope Systems: Techniques for setting secure anchor points and handling complex rope systems.Single-Pitch & Multi-Pitch Climbing: Training advances from basic climbs to multi-pitch, with instruction in rappelling and belaying clients.Rescue & Emergency Response: Self-rescue techniques, client assistance, and first aid for remote environments.Guide Leadership: Group management, client communication, and fostering a safe and positive climbing experience.Complete all training modules and assessments.Demonstrate climbing proficiency and guiding skills in both classroom and field settings.Plan and lead a final guided climb as a capstone project.
