ACK Marine & General Contracting is offering a Department of Defense SkillBridge opportunity for transitioning service members to gain hands-on experience as a Safety Officer in a dynamic marine and construction environment. This role provides practical training in workplace safety management, regulatory compliance (OSHA, USACE, EM 385-1-1), hazard identification, and incident prevention across marine construction projects.Participants will work closely with experienced safety professionals to support field operations, conduct site inspections, assist with safety documentation, and promote a strong safety culture across all job sites. This program is designed to translate military leadership, risk management, and operational experience into a civilian safety career.Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to maintaining the highest safety standards in demanding work environments.
The Construction Safety Officer will serve as the frontline leader of ACK Marine’s safety program. This individual is responsible for managing day-to-day safety activities, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, meeting client and regulatory requirements, and building a safety environment that is practical, proactive, and embedded in daily operations.This role goes far beyond PPE checks—ACK Marine is looking for someone who can build, implement, and drive a safety program that genuinely protects people on complex marine construction sites.Reports To: Operations ManagerEssential Duties & Responsibilities:Site Safety Oversight• Conduct daily job site walkthroughs to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions before incidents occur.• Monitor high-risk operations including fall protection, crane & rigging activities, lifting operations, trenching, confined space entry, and energized work.• Ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926, ACK Marine policies, and client/GC safety requirements.Program Implementation & Compliance• Ensure toolbox talks, JHAs, JSAs, daily inspections, and required safety programs are up to date, daily safety procedures are completed and documented daily.• Maintain and track all training, certifications, and competencies (OSHA 10/30, task-specific training, site orientations).• Assist in developing and improving site-specific safety plans, procedures, and safe work practices.Incident Prevention & Response• Lead incident and near-miss investigations, identify root causes, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.• Promote a culture of hazard recognition, open communication, and proactive reporting.Coordination & Communication• Act as the bridge between field crews, project management, the office, and client representatives regarding safety expectations and requirements.• Participate in coordination meetings, pre-task planning, and project kickoff sessions to integrate safety into all phases of work.
