U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
The SkillBridge Intern will perform technical work in support of the National Interagency Fire Center through mapping wild fires and providing that data to incident commanders. While on the 180-day internship, participant will receive on the job training and gain a practical knowledge of the phenomenology related to wild fires, the data and software used to map them, and how they are utilized in the field.
ABOUT THE JOB
National Civil Applications Center has an opening for an Intelligence Analyst or Geographer/Physical Scientist position and is looking to fill the position with the SkillBridge Program. Ideal candidates need a demonstrable understanding of GIS a Remote Sensing and related applications such as Electronic Light Table software and are interested in working with other Civil agencies to provide near real time fire mapping products to incident commanders to prevent loss of life and infrastructure. Performs mapping and processing, report writing, verifies accuracy of data and troubleshoots software issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform technical work in support of the National Interagency Fire Center through mapping wild fires and providing that data to incident commanders.
- Receive on the job training and gain practical knowledge of the phenomenology related to wild fires, the data and software used to map them, and how they are utilized in the field.
- Perform mapping and processing, report writing, verifies accuracy of data and troubleshoots software issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrable understanding of GIS and Remote Sensing and related applications such as Electronic Light Table software.
- Interest in working with other Civil agencies to provide near real time fire mapping products to incident commanders.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY
This position requires an active and verifiable TS/SCI Clearance. USGS National Civil Applications Center is in Lakewood, CO, at the Denver Federal Center. NCAC also provides assistance to the USGS Natural Hazards Mission area, and other civil agencies for various projects and interns would be exposed to a variety of different projects in addition to fire mapping.
