ABOUT THE JOB
Serves as regular substitute Marine Traffic Controller at the Control Center, Cape God Canal Field Office. Performs duties on an assigned eight-hour shift in compliance with prescribed schedules. Is responsible for the prompt and safe dispatch of a variety of vessels through the Canal according to established rules, regulations and directives. Directs the activities of traffic control personnel at the canal working on the same shift with the incumbent. Importance of decisions is reflected in the fact that once a ship is cleared to enter the Canal land cut, no change in dispatching orders for proceeding is possible. Cooperates closely with superiors when questions arise as to special navigation problems in the Canal, changes in procedures or the revision of policies to govern future actions or decisions under specific conditions.
