Instrument & Controls Technician: The candidate will learn to perform a variety of skilled work in the operation of the industrial, commercial processes of the City's Water and Wastewater facilities, to include: (1) Inspecting, testing, adjusting, and repairing of electric, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic instruments and systems used to indicate, record, and control generating operations in Water and Wastewater plants: Inspects meters, indicators, and gauges to detect abnormal fluctuations. (2) Testing accuracy of flowmeters, pressure gauges, temperature indicators, controllers, radiation counters or detectors, and other recording, indicating or controlling instruments to locate defective components in system, using test equipment, such as pressure gauges, mercury manometers, potentiometers, pulse and signal generators, oscilloscopes, transistor curve tracers, and ammeters, voltmeters, and watt meters.(3) Working with a wide variety of pneumatic, electronic and microcomputer devices used to measure and control pressure, flow, temperature, level, motion, force, and chemical composition. (4) Consulting manufacturers' manuals to determine test and maintenance procedures. (5) Using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices to inspect and test instrument and system operation, and diagnose faults. (6) Repairing, maintaining and calibrating level, pressure and flow telemetry; installs, maintains, repairs and calibrates all types of process instrumentation used for monitoring water/wastewater parameters such as level, pressure, flow, chemical concentrations, turbidity and pH consult with and advise process operators. (7) Repairing, maintaining and adjusting system components or removes and replaces defective parts. (8) Installing and maintaining instruments on new or existing plant equipment and processes. Other Requirements: Physical Demands & Work Environment: Most work is performed in a treatment plant/field setting, with occasional work done in an office environment. PPE provided - May be exposed to harsh substances; be exposed to foul odors within acceptable ranges/levels; work in confined spaces; ascend and descend ladders up to 50 feet in height; wear protective apparel including, but not limited to, goggles, face protectors, aprons, fall protection, shoes and a respirator, as required by OSHA standards. Work Schedule: The City's normal working hours are 8am to 5pm Monday - Friday, though Water Resources Department has a flexible.

ABOUT THE JOB

Instrument & Controls Technician installs, maintains and repairs the measuring and control devices used in industrial, commercial processes and Water and Wastewater facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Inspecting, testing, adjusting, and repairing electric, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic instruments and systems in Water and Wastewater plants.
• Testing accuracy of flowmeters, pressure gauges, temperature indicators, controllers, and other recording, indicating or controlling instruments.
• Working with a variety of pneumatic, electronic and microcomputer devices to measure and control various parameters.
• Consulting manufacturers' manuals to determine test and maintenance procedures.
• Using testing devices to inspect, test instrument and system operation, and diagnose faults.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to work with pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices.
• Skill in repairing, maintaining and calibrating telemetry and process instrumentation.
• Capability to install and maintain instruments on new or existing equipment and processes.
