HD High Island Ranch offers a DoD SkillBridge internship for transitioning service members interested in a career in ranch management. This hands-on program provides comprehensive training in managing a working cattle and sheep operation in Thermopolis Wyoming. Participants will gain practical experience in all facets of ranching, including livestock health, breeding, and rotational grazing. The curriculum covers sustainable land stewardship, maintenance of fences and water systems, and safe equipment operation. Interns will also gain exposure to the business side of ranching, from budgeting to marketing.
Key responsibilities include directing all livestock operations, with a specific focus on the health, breeding, and care of our cattle and sheep herds. The manager will supervise and train ranch hands, ensuring a safe and productive work environment. This role is also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all ranch facilities, including buildings, fences, pastures, and equipment, to ensure long-term sustainability and productivity.The position requires strong financial oversight, including developing and managing the budget, controlling costs, and handling accounts. The manager must ensure all ranch activities comply with state and federal regulations.

Lodging will not be provided. Participants will be required to travel to and from the location each business day. Periodically, meals will be provided, but it is not on a consistent basis.
