The Project Coordinator / Assistant Project Manager SkillBridge program prepares transitioning service members for a career in commercial construction project management. Participants will work alongside RCG’s project management team supporting active construction projects in healthcare, education, and commercial renovation. Training combines hands-on office-based project administration with site visits and structured mentorship.
The Project Coordinator / Assistant Project Manager is an office-based role responsible for supporting RCG’s Project Managers in the day-to-day administration and execution of commercial construction projects. This position serves as the operational backbone of the project management team — managing documentation, coordinating with subcontractors and design teams, and ensuring project systems run smoothly from preconstruction through closeout. This is a high-growth role with a clear path to Project Manager for the right candidate. Key Responsibilities Project Documentation & Administration• Process, track, and distribute Requests for Information (RFIs) and submittals through Procore• Prepare and distribute meeting minutes for OAC, preconstruction, and subcontractor coordination meetings• Maintain organized project files including contracts, correspondence, permits, and compliance documents• Prepare project status reports, transmittal letters, and owner correspondence• Manage drawing logs and coordinate distribution of updated construction documents to field teams Scheduling & Cost Management• Assist Project Managers with developing and maintaining project schedules in Procore & BUILDR• Review 2-week look-ahead schedules in coordination with field Superintendents• Support preparation of AIA Applications for Payment and Schedule of Values management• Track job cost budgets and assist with cost-to-complete projections and subcontractor billing• Monitor subcontractor pay applications and retainage tracking through Procore Subcontractor & Procurement Coordination• Assist with bid solicitation using SmartBid & BUILDR; compile and level subcontractor bid tabs for PM / Estimator review• Support subcontract execution including scope review, insurance compliance, and Davis-Bacon verification• Coordinate subcontractor procurement schedules and track material submittals and approvals• Process change order requests and maintain change order logs in Procore Compliance & Closeout• Review certified payroll documentation for Davis-Bacon compliance on applicable federal projects• Compile project closeout packages including warranties, O&M manuals, as-built drawings, and attic stock• Coordinate certificate of occupancy process and final inspection scheduling• Support ICRA documentation and compliance tracking on active healthcare renovation projectsPreferred Qualifications• High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, or related field preferred• 1–3 years of experience in construction project coordination, administration, or a related field• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)• Strong written and verbal communication skills; professional client-facing presence• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously• Valid driver’s license (Required) and reliable transportation for project site visits• Experience with Procore, BUILDR, and/or SmartBid construction management platforms• Familiarity with AIA contract documents, Davis-Bacon requirements, or federal contracting• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification• Background in or understanding of healthcare construction, ICRA protocols, or occupied facility renovation• Military service or experience working in a high-accountability, mission-driven team environmentCore Competencies• Attention to Detail • Problem-Solving & Initiative• Organizational Excellence • Team Collaboration• Written & Verbal Communication • Accountability & Follow-Through• Time Management & Prioritization • Adaptability in a Fast-Paced Environment• Client & Stakeholder Relations • Technology ProficiencyWork Environment & Physical RequirementsThis position is primarily office-based at RCG’s headquarters in Cary, NC, with regular visits to active construction project sites throughout North Carolina. Site visits require compliance with all applicable OSHA safety requirements including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods, operate a computer, and occasionally traverse active construction environments.
