The Department of Emergency Management (DEM) leads countywide efforts to prepare for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate disasters and emergencies. DEM coordinates with public safety agencies, government departments, community organizations, and private-sector partners to strengthen community resilience and ensure continuity of essential services.
ABOUT THE JOB
This role provides transitioning military personnel with hands-on experience supporting emergency preparedness, response coordination, planning, training, exercises, and community resilience initiatives. Fellows will work alongside emergency management professionals and gain practical experience in all phases of emergency management.
RESPONSIBILITIES✨
- Assist with development and maintenance of emergency plans, procedures, and operations
- Support emergency preparedness projects, initiatives, training exercises, and public outreach
- Assist with Emergency Operations Center (EOC) readiness activities
- Coordinate with government agencies, community organizations, and private-sector partners
- Support disaster response and recovery activities as needed
- Conduct research and analysis on hazards, threats, and community vulnerabilities
- Assist with grant management, reporting, and program documentation
- Participate in planning meetings, working groups, and operational briefings
QUALIFICATIONS✨
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Experience working in team-based operational environments
- Ability to analyze information and solve complex problems
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
