Nursing – Outpatient and Specialty Services
Nursing Service at the RHJ VA Health Care System has experienced a staffing shortage with a service line vacancy rate of 21% and a Registered Nurse (RN) vacancy rate of 15.5%. Outpatient and Specialty Services vacancies includes RNs, licensed practical nurses (LPNs), Intermediate Care Technicians (ICTs), and healthcare technicians (HCTs). This service also requires highly skilled/specialized RNs in the Chemo-Infusion, Cancer Care and Dialysis units. The overall vacancy rate in Outpatient and Specialty services is 23%.Objectives:
ABOUT THE JOB
This RN leads other team members to provide safe and effective care of the patient during appointments and procedures and ensures a smooth patient traffic flow throughout the Specialty clinics. He/she assists with various procedures, provides pre- and post in-clinic or surgical procedure education and information about medications, oversees the safety of the patient, documents procedural assessment information, ensures correct labeling of specimens and that requirements for reusable medical equipment are sufficiently and consistently employed.He/she works collaboratively as a member of a larger team, implementing PACT principles, and is proactive in planning, overseeing and instituting care for a wide variety of patients with varying ages and states of health that will be examined andtreated in the Specialty Clinics.He/she provides guidance and education to patients and caregivers and collaborates with other professionals at all levels including but not limited to the other nurses and physicians and the Nurse Manager, Specialty Clinics. He/she reports status of service needs and contributes to problem resolution and modification of processes as necessary.
