ABOUT THE JOB

The WG-3703-08/WG-3703-10 Welder position will be 120-day On-the-Job Training. Feedback sessions with the participant and the SkillBridge POCs will be conducted at the midpoint and conclusion of the placement for programmatic improvement. Training can be adapted based on developmental needs of the participant.Major duties include: using accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes, performs welding duties using electric, acetylene, and/or inert gas shielded welding processes to weld various types of metals in various sizes, shapes, and thickness, including dissimilar metals. Work is performed in a flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead position. Work processes include pre-heating, hazing, bead welding, tack welding, flame cutting, and heat treating. Work involves planning, laying out work, positioning and clamping templates; jigs and other guides to repair, modify, or fabricate metal items for all types of equipment including the repair of light and intricate made mechanical parts which must fit to tolerance. Welds stainless steel and aluminum, where complete penetration/fusion is required and where close tolerances must be met. Adjusts machine to penetration/fusion is required and where close tolerances must be met. Adjusts machine to permit welding materials of various thickness.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Using accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes, performs welding duties using electric, acetylene, and/or inert gas shielded welding processes to weld various types of metals in various sizes, shapes, and thickness, including dissimilar metals.
  • Work processes include pre-heating, hazing, bead welding, tack welding, flame cutting, and heat treating.
  • Planning, laying out work, positioning and clamping templates; jigs and other guides to repair, modify, or fabricate metal items for all types of equipment including the repair of light and intricate made mechanical parts which must fit to tolerance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess or be able to obtain certification within the SkillBridge placement for the American Welding Society Standard for Aluminum & Steel under AWS D17.1 Specifications for Aerospace Applications.
  • Training and on-site testing available.
  • Secret security clearance required.
  • Physical effort involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
  • May handle objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY

Must possess or be able to obtain certification within the SkillBridge placement for the American Welding Society Standard for Aluminum & Steel under AWS D17.1 Specifications for Aerospace Applications. Training and on-site testing available. Secret security clearance required. Physical Effort: The work involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing. Work may be done in awkward and cramped quarters. May handle objects weighing up to 50 lbs.Working Conditions: Constant exposure to dirt, grease, noise, odors, smoke, and fumes with requirement for protective equipment such as safety glasses, ear plugs, safety shoes, aprons, gloves, welding helmets, and goggles. Work is usually performed on concrete floors or as required on or in equipment being repaired. Subject to burns and eye injury when welding. Danger from electric shock and falls from scaffolds or ladders, infrared or ultraviolet rays, fumes, and gases.
