Summary Description - This is a developmental position re-engineered at less than the full performance level for recruitment and training purposes. The duties of the position are similar to those of the target grade GS-1035-09. Performs entry level work with assignments designed to provide the competencies, skills, and experience required to perform the more complex work at the full performance grade level. The work increases in difficulty, complexity, and responsibility as the incumbent gains experience and demonstrates a full comprehension of assigned work.

ABOUT THE JOB

PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST - Works as a web content provider with responsibility for maintaining information on the District’s internal and external web sites, as well as contributing to its online social media platforms. Plans, develops, and uploads web content in coordination with the district’s divisions and offices. Ensures that the organization’s official public website, intranet and internal digital displays remain current with a comprehensive body of new and existing information to support the overall command information mission. Creates web pages, posts online content updates, monitors web traffic and evaluates metrics. Works as a journalist with responsibility for producing news articles and feature stories with accompanying photos that tell the Corps story by showcasing the organization’s programs, projects and people both internally and externally. Assists with the district’s in-house news service by providing coverage of newsworthy events and activities. Conveys accurate and timely information in print and electronic formats to inform and educate internal and external audiences about the organization and its missions. Conducts research and interviews, writes copy, and engages in the design and layout of information materials using desktop publishing software. Researches and pursues opportunities to place articles in internal and external media. Works as an editor with responsibility for reviewing articles and photos prepared by workforce members for internal and/or external publications. Makes necessary revisions to ensure materials meet professional journalism standards. Corrects spelling and grammatical errors; minimizes technical jargon and complexity; addresses aspects lacking context, clarity and/or conciseness; and alleviates issues with structure and organization. Provides advice on story topics, planning and development.

RESPONSIBILITIES
