ABOUT THE JOB
Position PurposeThe Network Specialist is responsible for the installation and maintenance of over 10,000 network devices for the TEKsystems Client, including services for healthcare organizations, data centers, and the state K-20 Education network. Responsibilities encompass activating network/phone ports, installing switches, wireless access points, routers, firewalls, and UPSs related to all telecommunication network services for voice, data, and video. This position also provides support for infrastructure design and coordination with various departments.Position ComplexitiesThe role requires a strong understanding of Ethernet technologies, TCP/IP, SNMP, and IP network security, with the ability to adapt and apply these principles across different sectors—notably, healthcare, data centers, and K-20 Education, each of which operates on varying protocols and maintenance procedures. An excellent understanding of interconnection and troubleshooting techniques for WAN/LAN hardware, including routers and LAN switches, is essential. This position will provide tier 2 support for all network-related incidents.Position Dimensions and ImpactThe Network Specialist will be instrumental in installing and ensuring the operation of both the physical and switching components of networking across diverse sectors. The network serves as the backbone for information transfer; without it, communication could be significantly impaired. Our diverse customer base—including staff, faculty, students, researchers, healthcare providers, patients, and visitors—depends on seamless network functionality for day-to-day operations. This position is critical to maintaining and enhancing the network to ensure uninterrupted information flow.Duties & Responsibilities• Under general supervision, independently perform complex installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair activities for all telecommunications and data networking services.• Share technical expertise and provide support for telecommunications and data networking installation and maintenance, coordinating with various facilities concerning installation activities.• Provide supervision, coordination, and support functions/expertise for on-site technical and operational support staff; may direct the work of others.• Assist in developing procedures for all aspects associated with installation activities and provide on-site technical assistance for peers and customers.Required Qualifications• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY
Other Comments• A satisfactory outcome of a criminal history verification may be required prior to hire.• Must be willing to adjust core work schedule as this is an essential position requiring attendance during operational suspensions.• Availability for potential off-shift schedules and participation in after-hours on-call rotation is necessary.• Must be able to operate a state vehicle daily, requiring a valid driver's license recognized by the State of Washington. Occasional travel on weekends may be necessary to perform assigned duties.
