Librarian Internship
This is an internship for military personnel preparing for retirement by receiving training for a new career in civilian life. This internship will train the intern to be easily hired as a library associate in a public library.
ABOUT THE JOB
•Together with the library team, create a dynamic and exciting library experience by focusing on innovation and adventure while providing excellent customer service.•Provide front-line service to library patrons, including ready reference and basic readers’ advisory, assist customers with use of the library catalog and locating items on the shelves, and assist patrons with computers and other library technology.•Issue new library cards, create and updated patron accounts, answer library account questions, place holds, track cash and credit card payments, and answer basic information questions related to library collections, services, and programs.•Maintain library collections by shifting, shelving, straightening, shelf reading, repairing items, tracking and locating missing items, and pulling items for possible weeding consideration. May promote the collection through creating and maintaining library displays.•Under the guidance of department directors and librarians, may develop and deliver innovative and engaging programs.•May provide outreach services including selecting and delivering materials and providing services to community organizations and businesses, throughout Grand Forks City and County including underserved populations, area businesses, service groups and other organizations and venues as applicable. Driving to locations throughout the City andCounty on a pre-determined schedule is required while performing any assigned outreach duties.•Work collaboratively under the guidance of department directors and librarians in planning and implementing special projects involving patron service and outreach.•Maintain statistics and patron testimonials for monthly and annual reports.•Stay current on emerging library trends, new and current technologies, and take responsibility for own professional development. Attend webinars, workshops, and library conferences as approved by Department Director and Library Director.•Actively participate in various meetings, programs, committees as a representative of the library.•May cover book drop duties during holiday closures on a rotation with other staff as assigned.•May schedule and prepare meeting rooms and tidy up after use.•Provide guidance and training to library clerks.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters of Library Science preferred
- Ability to provide excellent customer service
- Skills in using library catalog and technology
- Ability to maintain and organize library collections
- Capability to develop and deliver library programs
