This progressive training program prepares uncredentialed participants for D-SAACP certification and provides credentialed participants with advanced experience in SAPR duties. It follows four phases: classroom instruction on SAPR fundamentals, fieldwork and mentorship, certification preparation with final assessments, and specialized training to enhance advocacy skills, program support, and leadership development.
SAPR VAs provide confidential, non-clinical support and advocacy services to victims of sexual assault in accordance with DoD and Service regulations. VAs are responsible for accepting and documenting restricted and unrestricted reports, conducting safety assessments, making referrals, and coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams. Additional duties include leading outreach and training efforts, supporting command inspections, participating in Case Management Group (CMG) meetings, assisting SARCs with case management, and maintaining the 24/7 SAPR support line. VAs are required to complete continuing education and advocacy hours to maintain D-SAACP certification.
Minimum qualifications include a degree in behavioral or social sciences, equivalent education and experience, or four years of relevant experience in the field. For GS-9/11 positions, candidates must have one year of specialized SAPR experience at the next lower grade or 2-3 years of advanced graduate education toward a master’s or Ph.D.
