The routine assignments embedded throughout the 16-week training period are specifically designed to build a deep, practical understanding and grasp of Federal HR work, ensuring the trainee is prepared for a future career as a skilled HR Specialist. The curriculum transitions from theoretical training (Weeks 1–6) into focused, routine, on-the-job assignments. This includes participating in the review and assessment of routine low-level Federal classification actions (Weeks 7–9), which provides critical hands-on experience with the requirements and methods of position classification. Furthermore, the trainee will consistently work with and assist HR Generalists in core Federal HR areas, including strategic discussion, job analysis development, announcement drafting, and candidate assessment (Weeks 10–12). This exposure to the day-to-day functions and special initiatives ensures the trainee gains technical proficiency and advisory expertise in human capital issues, allowing them to confidently perform in an HR role immediately following the program.
