The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center’s (GVSMVAMC) Health Administration Service (HAS) is seeking collaboration through the DoD SkillBridge program by offering a critical administrative position: Transportation Assistant (MSA). The role is essential to improving access to care, streamlining administrative workflows, and strengthening overall operational efficiency within HAS. HAS plays a pivotal role in ensuring efficient healthcare administration for over 54,000 enrolled Veterans across rural and highly rural areas. Currently, our service line is facing vacancies in these areas. By integrating transitioning service members into key positions, we aim to improve service delivery, reduce delays, and enhance the overall veteran experience. SkillBridge participants will gain valuable hands-on experience in healthcare administration while directly contributing to the VA’s mission of serving those who have served.

ABOUT THE JOB
This position serves as a Transportation Assistant in the Health Administration Service line in the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VAMC. A VA Transportation Assistant has many duties, including scheduling appointments, monitoring patient needs, and participating in team meetings. Major duties and responsibilities include: schedule, canceling, and rescheduling patient appointments and consults. Follow scheduling policies and procedures. Ensure appointments are made from a provider's order. Monitor appointment requests from multiple electronic sources. Monitor pre-appointment requirements to ensure patients are ready for their visit. Participate in team meetings to manage and plan patient care. Set priorities and deadlines. Adjust the flow of work to meet patient needs. Evaluate patient information to determine if they are vested. Enter no-show information. Perform administrative follow-up actions. Participate in problem-solving on operational issues. Conduct special audits, studies, or surveys to develop procedures. Communicate clearly with doctors during and after patient treatments. Educate providers about shared patients.
