Veterans to Teachers Program
We are seeking veterans who have a desire to continue to serve their communities by being a teacher within our public school system. Candidates would need to hold a bachelors degree from an accredited university or college and may require the need to take a state subject level exam in order to obtain their temporary teaching certificate within Florida. This internship opportunity would provide specific experiences to the candidate by being assigned a mentor teacher within our schools. Candidates will learn how to create supportive classroom environments, create lesson plans that are aligned to state standards as well as working collaboratively within their grade level or department team. Candidates would have the opportunity to gradually take over the instruction of the classroom while still under the supervision of their mentor teacher.
ABOUT THE JOB
Brevard Public Schools is looking for a variety of certifications within our teacher ranks. Currently, individuals with a math, science and exceptional education background are the greatest need. Elementary teachers are also needed throughout our district to meet the growth of our district.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create supportive classroom environments
- Create lesson plans aligned to state standards
- Work collaboratively within their grade level or department team
- Gradually take over the instruction of the classroom under the supervision of a mentor teacher
QUALIFICATIONS
- Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
- May require passing a state subject level exam for temporary teaching certificate
- Undergo a drug test and background check with fingerprinting
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY
In order for candidates to apply for their temporary teaching certificate in Florida candidates must hold a bachelors degree from an accredited university or college. In many cases, candidates would also need to take and pass a subject area test in order to gain their temporary teaching certificate. Candidates participating in the Veterans to Teachers Program would not need to apply for their temporary teaching certificate until after their internship has been completed but candidates do need to hold a bachelors degree to be considered.
