This document outlines the training plan for servicemembers with strong electrical or electronic mechanical backgrounds, or supervisory roles in the same, to participate in the SkillBridge program at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY). The program's objective is to equip participants with the necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) to efficiently and effectively perform the duties of a WG-10 Electrician, WG-11 Electronics Mechanic, WS-10 Supervisor, or WS-12 General Foreman at NNSY. This comprehensive training program utilizes a blended learning approach incorporating classroom instruction, hands-on exercises, and on-the-job training (OJT). Each training period will conclude with an assessment of the intern's KSA, ensuring mastery of the curriculum. For individuals possessing advanced skill sets and demonstrable leadership experience, the tailored training plan outlined below extends past the mechanic’s 13-week training to a 17-week training, designed to leverage their existing expertise and accelerate their development.WS-10 and WS-12 Training ObjectivesUpon successful completion of this SkillBridge program, participants will be able to:• Adhere to all applicable safety regulations and procedures.• Oversee the daily operations of a team to ensure productivity, quality and safety goals are met.• Understand project management fundamentals and how to utilize the tools to manage workloads.• Create and adjust scheduling to ensure proper coverage and balance workloads.• Provide oversight to help employees improve skills and develop their potential.• Collaborate effectively within a team environment to achieve common goals.• Understand and apply NNSY specific policies and procedures related to the electrical/electronics trades, including jobsite risk assessment through understanding the OSHE 230 and 250.
Job Title: WS-10 Supervisory Electrical Electronics Shop Job Summary: As an electrical supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the planning, coordination, and overseeing of all work performed within the assigned area of the electrical/electronics shop. They will be required to review work, evaluate work performance and assist in solving difficult technical problems to ensure that production goals and quality standards are achieved. Supervisors will have technical accountability for the quantity and quality of the work performed by subordinates, requiring the application of thorough expert knowledge of the methods, techniques, procedures, tools, materials, and practices of the electrician trade. To fulfill the technical accountability required of this position, the incumbent must be proficient in evaluation of skills of the team members and must know when to seek guidance and advice from their next-level manager. They will ensure equality in determining qualifications, selections, assignments, training, promotions, details, discipline, and awards to employees.Job Title: WS-12 General Foreman Electrical Electronics Shop Job Summary: The incumbent is directly responsible for the overall performance of the assigned work. They are tasked with accomplishing high quality work, in a timely manner, to meet scheduled dates and at a reasonable cost. Work is accomplished in a manner to ensure the effective and economical use of personnel, equipment, facilities, materials, and methods to meet production goals and quality standards. The incumbent will consult with subordinate supervisors to determine workload capacity and adjust work priorities to comply with established milestones and changing work conditions. Additionally, they will provide guidance and specific instructions to accomplish the overall mission of the Electrical/Electronics shop. They will plan and schedule the accomplishment of major work assignments on a long-range basis within the schedules and priorities established by higher authority.
