Hiring ProbabilityA full-time Wildlife Technician position is available and intended for the service member upon successful completion of the 25-week training program. Critter Control of Kaw Valley anticipates hiring the participant at program completion, subject to satisfactory performance, background check, and drug screen.Accountability and LocationPrimary training and reporting location: Critter Control of Kaw Valley(Physical address to be confirmed upon enrollment)Topeka, KS and Manhattan, KS, operating across Riley, Shawnee, Douglas, Geary, Franklin, Lyon, and Osage Counties — with Manhattan and the Fort Riley/Junction City corridor serving as a key operational area for this position.Training is conducted in-person in the field and on-line. The service member will report daily to the company's designated dispatch/staging location and operate across the Kaw Valley service territory. The supervising manager will serve as the primary point of contact for unit commanders. Commander accountability inquiries may be directed to the branch manager at 913-486-1071.Online TrainingIn addition to daily field training, participants will complete a structured online learning curriculum throughout the 25-week program. Online coursework is integrated into the training schedule and does not require additional hours outside of the standard 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM workday unless otherwise arranged with the supervising manager.Online training components include:Critter Control Species and Procedure Library — web-based reference training covering regional wildlife species identification, behavior patterns, and species-specific removal and exclusion procedures.Kansas Pesticide Applicator License Preparation — online study materials aligned with the Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) pesticide applicator exam are provided during Week 21 to prepare participants for optional licensure.Online training progress is tracked by the supervising manager and documented in the participant's training record. Completion certificates for all online modules are submitted to the branch manager and retained in the participant's personnel file. Unit commanders may request a summary of online training completion status at any time through the branch manager at 913-486-1071.Schedule and AttendanceStandard training hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with occasional after-hours or weekend availability required as part of realistic field training. Total weekly commitment is approximately 40 hours.Attendance will be tracked daily through company sign-in/sign-out logs and documented in the company's field management software (ServiceBridge — a digital work order and scheduling platform). Attendance and performance summaries will be provided to the service member's unit upon request, and a designated supervisor will be available to respond to any command inquiries regarding attendance, conduct, or program status.Security and SafetyNo security clearance is required for this position. Training does involve physically demanding and potentially hazardous environments, including:Working at heights up to 40 feet on ladders, rooftops, and chimneysEntry into confined spaces such as attics, crawlspaces, and basementsHandling and humanely euthanizing nuisance wildlifeUse of rodenticides and disinfecting chemicals under safety protocolsOutdoor work in all weather conditions across varied terrainAll hazardous environment training is conducted in full compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) — including gloves, respirators, coveralls, safety glasses, and fall arrest harnesses — is provided by the company at no cost to the participant. OSHA 10 General Industry certification is completed during Week 1 of the program.Industry Benefits and Civilian Skills GainedThis program directly translates military discipline, physical readiness, and mission-execution skills into high-demand civilian trade competencies. Upon completion, the service member will have obtained:Wildlife species identification — mammals, rodents, birds, bats, and reptiles common to the Kansas/Midwest regionKansas trapping law certification knowledge — Kansas Statutes Annotated 32-1001, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) nuisance wildlife regulationsExclusion and construction skills — installation of structural barriers, light carpentry repair, roof and foundation sealingHazardous environment remediation — attic decontamination, contaminated insulation removal, and safe chemical handlingFederal regulatory compliance — Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) and federal bat protection protocolsCustomer communication and sales — client-facing inspection presentations, service agreement documentation, and account managementRoute and logistics management — daily route planning, digital work order completion, and multi-stop territory coverageCritter Control of Kaw Valley Wildlife Technician Certification upon program completionThese skills are portable, regionally in-demand, and provide a direct pathway to a stable, full-time career with advancement potential into management and franchise ownership.Non-Disclosure Agreements and ContractsParticipants will not be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) as a condition of program participation. No financial obligations are imposed on the service member at any point during the training program. The participant may be asked to acknowledge receipt of the company's standard employee handbook and training program expectations, which carry no financial terms. All program costs — equipment, PPE, training materials, and certification fees — are covered by Critter Control of Kaw Valley.
