SkillBridge Opportunity: Operations Manager – Adult Hockey LeagueJob Description:The Operations Manager will play a key role in the day-to-day management and strategic growth of an adult hockey league. This 120-day DoD SkillBridge training program provides transitioning service members with hands-on experience in sports operations, facility management, customer relations, and business administration.Key Responsibilities:League Operations & Scheduling – Oversee game schedules, team registrations, standings, and league compliance with rules and policies.Event & Facility Management – Coordinate ice time, ensure smooth game-day operations, and assist with special events or tournaments.Customer & Team Relations – Communicate with players, captains, and officials to address concerns and improve the overall league experience.Marketing & Business Development – Support league growth through social media, sponsorships, partnerships, and community engagement.Financial & Administrative Tasks – Assist with budgeting, invoicing, reporting, and maintaining accurate records.Leadership & Problem-Solving – Work closely with league staff, referees, and rink personnel to enhance operations and ensure a positive experience for participants.Ideal Candidate:Strong organizational and leadership skillsPassion for hockey or sports managementExperience in logistics, operations, or customer serviceAbility to multitask and work in a fast-paced environmentProficiency in Microsoft Office, scheduling software, or league management toolsThis program will provide valuable real-world experience in sports management, event coordination, and business operations, preparing participants for careers in recreation, athletics, or general management roles.
ABOUT THE JOB
Job Duties & Responsibilities:League Operations & Administration:Develop and manage league schedules, including regular-season games, playoffs, and tournaments.Coordinate team registrations, player eligibility, and roster compliance.Monitor league rules and policies, ensuring enforcement and fair play.Maintain accurate records of team standings, statistics, and disciplinary actions.Assist with the creation and distribution of league materials, including schedules, rules, and announcements.Game Day & Facility Management:Oversee game-day operations, ensuring all matches run on time and according to league guidelines.Coordinate with rink staff to ensure proper ice time allocation and facility readiness.Supervise referees and scorekeepers, addressing any issues or disputes that arise.Ensure the safety and cleanliness of league facilities before, during, and after games.Customer & Team Relations:Act as the primary point of contact for team captains, players, and officials.Address player concerns, disputes, and inquiries professionally and efficiently.Foster a positive and inclusive league environment for all participants.Develop and implement player engagement initiatives, such as league newsletters, social events, or feedback surveys.Marketing & Business Development:Assist with league promotion through social media, email campaigns, and community outreach.Develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses, rinks, and sponsors.Work on merchandising and branding opportunities to enhance the league’s presence.Support recruitment efforts for new teams and players to expand the league.Financial & Administrative Responsibilities:Assist with budget planning, financial tracking, and sponsorship agreements.Manage league invoices, payments, and refunds, ensuring proper record-keeping.Prepare weekly reports on game results, attendance, and financial performance.Support the implementation of new systems or processes to improve league efficiency.Leadership & Problem-Solving:Serve as an on-site problem solver for scheduling conflicts, disputes, or technical issues.Work closely with league staff to develop and implement operational improvements.Provide feedback and recommendations for future seasons and league expansion.Preferred Qualifications & Skills:Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.Passion for hockey, sports management, or event coordination.Experience in logistics, operations, or customer service.Ability to multi-task and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, scheduling software, or league management tools.Understanding of sports rules, regulations, and best practices is a plus.This SkillBridge opportunity will provide invaluable real-world experience in sports management, event coordination, and business operations, preparing participants for civilian careers in recreation, athletics, or general management roles.
