The House of Literacy Tutoring Position offers a unique opportunity for SkillBridge participants to gain hands-on experience in an after-school nonprofit program setting. ABOUT THE JOB
1. Tutor (SkillBridge Participant)Role: As a tutor, the SkillBridge participant will work directly with students in the after-school literacy program. They will provide academic support in reading, writing, math, and other subjects as needed. The tutor will adapt teaching methods to the needs of each student and help them achieve their learning goals.Responsibilities:Provide one-on-one and group tutoring to students in literacy and other academic subjects.Develop and implement lesson plans to meet individual student needs and goals.Track student progress and provide feedback on academic improvement.Assist students in building essential academic skills such as reading comprehension, vocabulary, and basic math.Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.Collaborate with other tutors, staff, and volunteers to ensure the success of the program.Skills Required:Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Passion for education and working with children.Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.Patience and understanding in a tutoring environment.Basic knowledge of educational methods for literacy and academic skills development.2. The Program Support Assistant will also assist with parent communication and program outreach efforts.Responsibilities:Assist with setting up and organizing tutoring materials and resources.Help manage student sign-in/sign-out processes.Provide administrative support, such as maintaining attendance records and filing reports.Assist in the coordination of parent communication regarding student progress and program updates.Help manage the program's social media presence and outreach efforts.Support tutors in classroom management and ensuring students stay engaged.Skills Required:Organizational and multitasking abilities.Strong communication skills.Basic administrative and office skills (e.g., filing, record keeping).Experience working with children or in a nonprofit setting is a plus.A proactive attitude and the ability to work independently.3.
