Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations: The candidate will learn how to perform a variety of skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the City's water and/or wastewater treatment plant equipment and processes in the plant/field setting, to include: (1) Water and/or wastewater treatment processes and systems to include plant equipment and systems, including the operation of valves, gates, pumps and machinery manually, locally in automatic mode or remote via computerized control strategy.(2) Sampling and analysis of influents/effluents, source water/product water, feed water and permeate to detect quality variations, interpret laboratory results, reading sheets, process test, computerized data and information trends to identify variations in flow and water quality and make appropriate changes.(3) Operation of a treatment facility, including day to day operations necessary to meet all required Local, State and Federal regulations pertaining to the production of reuse, ground injection or potable water and comply with prescribed operating and safety standards.(4) Uses of a variety of standard testing procedures to determine problems and any adjustments needed in the treatment process. Other Requirements: Physical Demands & Work Environment: Most work is performed in a treatment plant/field setting, with occasional work done in an office environment. PPE provided - May be exposed to harsh substances; be exposed to foul odors within acceptable ranges/levels; work in confined spaces; ascend and descend ladders up to 50 feet in height; wear protective apparel including, but not limited to, goggles, face protectors, aprons, fall protection, shoes and a respirator, as required by OSHA standards.Work Schedule: The City's normal working hours are 8am to 5pm Monday - Friday, though Water Resources Department has a flexible work schedule dependent upon operational needs. The City should be able to work around the needs of the veteran's schedule.
ABOUT THE JOB
Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II performs intermediate-level operational tasks involved in the operation and maintenance of the City's water and wastewater treatment plant equipment and processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform a variety of skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the City's water and/or wastewater treatment plant equipment and processes.
- Operate valves, gates, pumps, and machinery manually, locally in automatic mode or remotely via computerized control strategy.
- Conduct sampling and analysis of influents/effluents, source water/product water, feed water and permeate to detect quality variations.
- Interpret laboratory results, reading sheets, process tests, and computerized data to identify variations in flow and water quality and make appropriate changes.
- Ensure compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations for the production of reuse, ground injection, or potable water.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to operate a variety of plant equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of standard testing procedures to determine problems and adjustments needed in the treatment process.
- Ability to work in a treatment plant/field setting with exposure to harsh substances, foul odors, and confined spaces.
- Capable of ascending and descending ladders up to 50 feet in height.
- Must wear protective apparel as required by OSHA standards.
