The Prevention Specialist intern serves within the Integrated Resilience Office at Buckley SFB to support primary prevention programs. The mission is to build a resilient force by mitigating negative outcomes such as suicide, sexual assault, domestic abuse, and workplace violence through education and community outreach.
The Integrated Resilience Office at Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado, is offering a comprehensive SkillBridge Internship for transitioning service members to serve as a Prevention Specialist. In this role, interns work alongside a team of dedicated experts to implement and coordinate primary prevention programs designed to mitigate negative outcomes such as suicide, sexual assault, domestic abuse, and workplace violence.The core of this internship is a structured, six-module curriculum designed to build professional capability in community health and safety. The training begins with 24 hours of Resilience Training Assistant (RTA) Training, which provides the tools and techniques necessary to facilitate resilience curriculum. This is paired with a 4-hour Suicide Prevention Facilitator Training module to equip the intern with skills to deliver evidence-based suicide prevention curriculums, identify at-risk behaviors, and implement intervention protocols. The foundational training concludes with 4 hours of Wingman Intervention Training, empowering the intern to recognize early warning signs of distress or interpersonal violence and execute effective bystander intervention strategies.The curriculum then transitions into practical application through three intensive 40-hour modules. The Prevention Education and Facilitation module focuses on executing primary prevention programs and facilitating directed monthly training sessions, including Resilience, Wingman Intervention, and Suicide Prevention trainings. The Community Action and Strategic Support module involves active collaboration with cross-functional agencies to support the Installation Community Action Team (CAT) in promoting a fit, resilient, and ready force. Finally, the Prevention Awareness and Content Development module teaches the intern to partner with Public Affairs and CAT agencies to develop targeted web-based prevention messaging addressing workplace violence, child abuse, sexual assault, harassment, domestic violence, and suicide.Key Responsibilities & Qualifications:Under the guidance of the Prevention team, the intern will apply their training by executing primary prevention activities that align with Department of Defense and Department of the Air Force guidance. Daily responsibilities include co-facilitating educational forums, supporting cross-functional education and training campaigns, and managing program logistics such as marketing prevention programs, maintaining training materials, and navigating office administrative procedures.Ideal candidates should possess a strong interest in behavioral science, social science, public health, or related fields, and demonstrate a keen desire to learn about program management and curriculum design. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a collaborative teamwork mindset, and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance are required. While prior experience in primary prevention is highly desirable, it is not mandatory. Applicants must be active-duty service members eligible for the DoD SkillBridge program.
