The Public Affairs & Mass Communication Intern will support the organization’s communications, outreach, and policy efforts. Responsibilities include assisting with media monitoring, drafting press releases and social media content, conducting policy and legislative research, and preparing briefing materials. The intern will also help coordinate events, engage with community stakeholders, and contribute to advocacy initiatives. This role provides hands-on training in public affairs, government relations, and mass communication, offering practical experience in both strategic communication and policy engagement.
1) Foundations (Weeks 1–4) - Learn the basics of public affairs, media monitoring, and professional writing; practice drafting short releases and news briefs. 2) Communication Skills (Weeks 5–8) - Develop strong writing, editing, and presentation skills; manage simple content calendars and review basic analytics. 3) Policy & Advocacy (Weeks 9–12) - Understand legislation and policy research; create briefs, stakeholder maps, and advocacy materials. 4) Media & Outreach (Weeks 13–16) - Practice media pitching, event communication, and crisis response; track coverage and evaluate message impact. 5) Applied Experience (Weeks 17–22) - Lead a project from planning to execution, producing integrated deliverables and measuring results. 6) Capstone & Transition (Weeks 23–26) - Develop and present a comprehensive communications strategy; assemble a professional portfolio and career plan.
