The HAS at GVSMVAMC is collaborating with OTED and the DOD SkillBridge program office to develop a VA SkillBridge program in Jackson, MS. Instituting a Medical Support Assistant SkillBridge program at GVSMVAMC will enable VA to select, train and provide civilian job experience to transitioning service members interested in careers at VA.• This will fill a current gap in the targeted job series• SkillBridge can be fully implemented at GVSMVAMC during Fiscal Year 2025• SkillBridge links to VA senior leadership’s national goals and strategies
ABOUT THE JOB
This position serves as a Medical Support Assistant (MSA) in the Health Administration Service line in the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VAMC. A VA MSA work in clinics and other healthcare settings to help Veterans receive care. MSAs perform administrative tasks, customer service, and clerical work. They are often the first point of contact for veterans and their families. Major duties and responsibilities include: scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling of patient appointments and or consults. Verify and update insurance information, answer phones, greet patients, track, review, and respond to electronic orders, manage administrative information, help determine a clinic's daily needs. Work within the team to set team priorities and deadlines, adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs. Resolves complaints of a local administrative nature and refers other complaints to appropriate authorities. Updates and verifies demographic information. Maintains patient's confidential records, copies, and file documentation. Scans and enters information into Veterans Health Information System and Technology Architecture (VistA), Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
