Bridge Inspection & Technical Training: 1. Assist with inspections of bridges and related structures using industry-standard equipment and technology. 2. Apply foundational knowledge in bridge types, structural components, and inspection methodologies. 3. Develop familiarity with reading bridge plans, evaluating materials conditions, and understanding load and safety requirements. Field Work & Hands-On Experience: 1. Work on-site with senior inspectors to conduct assessments of concrete, steel, and timber structures. 2. Learn essential field techniques such as sketching, measurements, and using site plans. 3. Gain experience in working at heights, over water, and in various environmental conditions with appropriate PPE. Safety & Compliance:1. Follow OSHA and company safety protocols, including first aid procedures and traffic control guidelines. 2. Use Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to maintain a safe work environment. Teamwork & Communication: 1. Work closely with multidisciplinary teams and learn from experienced professionals. 2. Develop your leadership and communication skills in real-world scenarios. 3. Assist in documenting inspection findings and contributing to formal reports. Virtual Learning & Development:1. Engage in structured virtual learning modules covering: Bridge Inspection Manuals & Standards, Load Rating Software (Virtis), Principles of Structural Engineering and Project Management Fundamentals.
Military Experience: Open to active-duty military members, preferably with a background in technical fields. Must have authorization and approval from a unit commander to participate in the SkillBridge program. Education: High school diploma; college coursework in civil engineering or related fields. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform continuous field work including working at heights and in close quarters, climbing, carrying ladders and gear, working in various types of weather conditions, etc. Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for site travel. Technical Aptitude: Familiarity with construction, engineering, or inspection tools.
