Rock Island Police Department Police Officer
At the conclusion of the 16-week internship, RIPD Skillbridge participants shall have obtained significant training/familiarization with the policies and procedures of the Rock Island Police Department, as well as an understanding of Illinois criminal statutes and the ordinances of the City of Rock Island. Interns will be poised to begin and successfully complete a 16-week police academy before advancing to the official Rock Island Police Department Field Training Program.
ABOUT THE JOB
Under direct supervision, and with the intent to protect the life and property of the public, a police officer is required to: perform routine foot, bicycle, or vehicle patrol functions within a designated area; respond to emergency calls for service; provide assistance to the public; enforce parking regulations; investigate vehicle accidents, suspicious conditions, and reports of criminal activity; interview victims, witnesses, and suspects in criminal activity; preserve evidence at a crime scene; recover stolen property; make arrests for violations of the law or when warrants are in effect; prepare detailed reports of all incidents occurring during the assigned shift; and testify in court when required.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be between 21 and 34 years of age at the time of program completion
- Must have successfully completed four years of high school or equivalent
- Must have a valid driver's license equivalent to a Class D Illinois Vehicle Operator's License
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY
Must be between 21 and 34 years of age at the time of program completion. Must have successfully completed four years of high school or equivalent. Must have a valid driver's license equivalent to a Class D Illinois Vehicle Operator's License. Interns will be required to attend five 8-hour shifts each week, with exposure to different shift schedules and assignments. Times of assignments are approximate and participation is flexible based upon the personnel, daily activity, weather conditions, and other factors.
