The Protection & Control (P&C) Technician SkillBridge program is designed to train transitioning service members in the installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical protection systems used in power generation, transmission, and distribution environments.Participants will gain hands-on experience working with high-voltage equipment, protective relays, and control systems that ensure the safe and reliable operation of electrical infrastructure. During the SkillBridge program, you’ll gain hands-on experience and exposure to the core responsibilities of a Protection & Controls Technician, includingAssist with the installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relay systems, communication equipment, and substation controlsSupport functional testing of protection and control systems across transmission lines, transformers, breakers, feeders, and other high-voltage equipmentGain exposure to relay technologies, including industry-leading platforms such as SEL-411L relay and other SEL and GE relay systemsLearn to work with RTUs (Remote Terminal Units) and communication processors used in power system monitoring and controlParticipate in system upgrades, including RTU and telecom improvements for various clientsDevelop the ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, including one-lines, schematics, and wiring diagramsAssist in identifying discrepancies and supporting troubleshooting efforts in the fieldLearn how to accurately document and submit test reports for client and regulatory requirementsSupport field operations, including tracking time, expenses, and maintaining equipment and toolsBy the end of the program, you’ll have foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in Protection & Controls, positioning you for a full-time role in a high-demand technical field.
3 to 5 years’ experience in a Military Occupational Specialty in electrical, electronic systems, or computer systems or associate degree or bachelor’s degree.- Good communication skills. Written and verbal (English); technical and general report writing.- Troubleshooting skills and root cause analysis methodology.
