The Excavation Foreman-in-Training (FIT) program at Nidy Sports is designed to develop future leaders in sports construction. This role is both hands-on and supervisory, requiring technical expertise in excavation, grading, and installation, combined with leadership skills to guide crews safely and efficiently. FITs will work alongside crews in the field, operate heavy machinery, interpret site plans, and ensure all work meets industry and client standards. The program blends technical mastery, leadership development, and strict adherence to safety practices.
Key Responsibilities:Assist with and supervise excavation, grading, drainage, and site preparation activities.Operate heavy machinery safely, including skid steers, excavators, bulldozers, rollers, and graders.Use survey systems and grading equipment (UTS and 2D laser systems) to execute precise site layouts.Read and interpret blueprints, technical documents, and survey reports to guide field operations.Assign tasks, provide training to crew members, and monitor productivity on the job site.Ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety standards; conduct site inspections and enforce protocols.Track materials, maintain equipment, and ensure proper documentation of machinery use.Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, clients, subcontractors, and team members.Complete project documentation including daily reports, progress photos, timesheets, and incident records.Perform quality control inspections and troubleshoot challenges related to grading, drainage, and field layout.Training & Development Modules:Orientation & Nidy Standards: Company culture, policies, and expectations.Excavation & Site Preparation: Hands-on excavation and site prep.Heavy Equipment Operation: Safe operation of excavation and grading machinery.Grading & Survey Systems: Use of UTS and laser grading systems for precise work.Blueprint & Technical Reading: Interpretation of blueprints, specifications, and survey reports.Court Surfacing Installation: Installation of sports surfaces with senior guidance.Crew Leadership & Supervision: Task assignment, training, and productivity oversight.Worksite Safety & OSHA Compliance: Identification of hazards, enforcement of safety standards.Material & Equipment Management: Tracking, maintenance, and proper usage of resources.Communication & Client Relations: Coordination with clients, PMs, engineers, and team members.Project Documentation & Reporting: Maintaining accurate logs, reports, and records.Quality Control & Problem-Solving: Inspection and troubleshooting to ensure high-quality work.Qualifications & Requirements:Interest in a leadership role in excavation or sports construction.Willingness to learn and operate heavy equipment.Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.Ability to lead and motivate crews while maintaining a safe work environment.Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.Strong communication and organizational skills.Preferred:Previous experience in construction, excavation, or sports surfacing.OSHA certifications or heavy equipment operator training.Program Outcome:Upon successful completion of the FIT program, candidates will be prepared to take on Foreman responsibilities, leading excavation and sports construction projects with confidence, technical skill, and leadership expertise.
