The Industrial Marine Project Manager SkillBridge Trainee participates in a structured 26-week, full-time training program designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to manage ship repair and modernization projects in a shipyard and waterfront industrial environment. Through a combination of formal instruction and primarily hands-on On-the-Job Training (OJT), the trainee will learn to plan, coordinate, and execute complex multi-trade work while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and contractual requirements. Under the mentorship of experienced project managers and superintendents, participants gain practical experience in production planning, labor and material coordination, subcontractor oversight, customer communication, cost and schedule control, and shipyard safety leadership. The program includes completion of the OSHA-10 Maritime certification and culminates in a capstone assignment designed to demonstrate readiness for entry-level project management or project superintendent roles in the industrial marine sector. This training opportunity is intended for transitioning service members seeking to enter the ship repair, marine construction, or waterfront industrial workforce in a leadership track.
Participants in the Industrial Marine Project Manager SkillBridge program will:Assist in the planning and execution of ship repair, maintenance, and modernization projects in an active shipyard environmentSupport daily production coordination across multiple trades, including structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, coatings, and riggingParticipate in development and maintenance of project schedules, work packages, and production plansTrack labor hours, material status, and subcontractor progress to support cost and schedule performanceObserve and apply shipyard safety requirements, including hazard recognition, PPE compliance, and safe work practicesSupport quality assurance processes, inspections, and completion of required project documentationCoordinate material staging, tool availability, and logistics to prevent production delaysParticipate in production meetings, customer status meetings, and internal planning sessionsAssist in identifying and documenting growth work, changes in scope, and potential project risksLearn and apply regulatory and contractual requirements associated with Navy and commercial ship repair projectsSupport environmental compliance efforts, including proper handling of controlled materials and waste streamsDevelop professional communication and leadership skills through interaction with supervisors, trades personnel, subcontractors, and customersPrepare basic project reports and provide progress updates to program mentors and company leadershipPerform an assigned capstone assignment acting in an assistant project manager / superintendent capacity under supervision
