Our Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician internship is eligible for the SkillBridge program, a Department of Defense initiative to help transitioning, active-duty service members gain valuable civilian work experience. Service members participating in this DOD SkillBridge program will continue receiving their military compensation and benefits, while Louisiana Cat provides the civilian training and work experience. This 26-week program provides professional growth and development of technical skills and knowledge through mentorship, instructor-led and computer-based learning, and on-the-job training preparing participants for a rewarding career with Louisiana Cat. Upon successful completion, participants will be eligible for continued employment with Louisiana Cat. Diesel technician is an “in demand” occupation with opportunities for professional advancement beyond initial employment.ELIGIBILITYMust be a current active-duty service member within 180 days of separation. This includes members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.Must be able to complete a 6-month diesel technician internship.Proven mechanical aptitude.Prior military experience in equipment or diesel maintenance and repair is helpful.Strong customer service skills, professional demeanor, and always "safety-first" mentality every hour of every day.Interested service members must gain approval from their unit commander to participate in the SkillBridge program. Service members should contact their installation SkillBridge point of contact for details about service and command-specific guidance about the SkillBridge approval process.Successful completion of the SkillBridge program provides high probability of post-service employment with post-service compensation that is commensurate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of a diesel technician. First-year earning potential can be expected in the yearly range of $45,000 - $80,000. This yearly range is representative of the hourly rate, including typical overtime. This range is based on a technician’s experience, skills, education and training. For technicians, overtime is typically calculated on a daily basis after 8 hours worked.
