ABOUT THE JOB
The WG-3414-10 machinist position will be 120-day On-the-Job Training. Feedback sessions with the participant and the SkillBridge POCs will be conducted at the midpoint and conclusion of the placement for programmatic improvement. Training can be adapted based on developmental needs of the participant.Major Duties: Manufactures parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different kinds of metals and metal alloys and other materials, and performs machine work required in the manufacture of castings, forgings, weldments, and other fabrications. Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, work orders, model of parts to be made. Sets up work and operates machine tools and performs bench and assembly work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manufactures parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different kinds of metals and metal alloys and other materials.
- Performs machine work required in the manufacture of castings, forgings, weldments, and other fabrications.
- Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, work orders, model of parts to be made.
- Sets up work and operates machine tools.
- Performs bench and assembly work.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to handle physical efforts including standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to frequently handle objects weighing up to 10lbs and occasionally up to 40lbs.
- Experience or capability to work in conditions exposed to dust, oil, dirt, heat, noise, and fumes.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY
Physical Effort: The work requires standing, stooping, bending and reaching; and frequent handling of objects weighing up to 10lbs and occasionally objects weighing as much as 40lbs. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other workers are available to assist with heavier items.Working Conditions: Works in a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated shop with concrete floors. Exposed to dust from grinding, oil from machines, dirt, heat, noise, and fumes. Subject to eye and skin injuries from flying metal chips, abrasive particles and hot metal; skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds; and danger to the fingers, hands, and other body parts from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces, and moving parts of machine.
