As a SkillBridge participant, you'll gain comprehensive hands-on experience rotating through three critical roles in commercial refrigeration and electrical systems: EMS Technician, Refrigeration Construction Pipefitter, and Refrigeration Construction Electrician. This rotational program provides exposure to the full spectrum of installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting in supermarkets, convenience stores, and foodservice establishments.Program Overview: Throughout your SkillBridge experience, you'll develop expertise in documenting, installing, and servicing refrigeration systems, energy management systems, and high-voltage electrical components. You'll work alongside experienced technicians and foremen to build practical skills in construction, installation, maintenance, and system troubleshooting.
Core Responsibilities:Electrical Systems & Energy Management:Install and service high-voltage electrical power and circuits, working with systems involving control voltage signals and power devices ranging from 2-480 VACDocument and install control system hardware, electrical conduits, cabling, and fixtures necessary for refrigeration and building energy management conversions and upgradesExecute plans for electrical wiring to ensure well-functioning lighting, intercom, and other electrical systemsInstall electrical apparatus, fixtures, and equipment for alarm and other systemsInstall safety and distribution components including switches, resistors, and circuit-breaker panelsConnect wiring in electrical circuits and networks, ensuring compatibility of componentsOversee electrical installations and assist in leading small crewsRefrigeration Construction & Piping:Perform installation of supermarket refrigeration systems including piping, electrical components, and fixture handling/installationPipe cooler boxes, overhead lines, compressor rooms/houses, and refrigeration casesProvide required installation of pipe hangers as directed by the ForemanSupport construction efforts by brazing, insulating, and hanging pipingAssist the Construction Foreman as needed on various projectsTechnical Skills & Troubleshooting:Read and interpret control diagrams, ladder logic, electrical blueprints, and schematic diagramsUse standard hand tools, power tools, and specialized instruments including: voltmeter, multi-meter, amprobe, manometer, and RPM speed indicatorPrepare and assemble conduits and connect wiring through themPerform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units and electrical circuitsPrevent system breakdowns by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring, insulated cables, and cleaning circuitsSafety & Quality:Champion safety protocols and serve as an example to others when safety is an issueAbide by all safety standards and company proceduresMaintain high-quality workmanship across all installations and repairsAdditional Requirements:Willingness and ability to travel 25% - 75% of the timeAbility to work as part of a team and independently as situations requireOther duties and responsibilities as assigned
