Summary Description: Opportunity to learn and receive training from an experienced team that provides Operations and Maintenance for the Air Combat Training Systems (ACTS) at Shaw AFB. The chosen candidate will spend up to 12 weeks (flying schedule dependent) learning to perform Range Training Officer (RTO) duties and will be eligible for certification from the local Range Operating Authority (ROA) at the conclusion of the program.
A Range Training Officer (RTO) is primarily responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing training exercises on ranges (and/or designated military airspace), ensuring safety, and managing range resources. Other duties may include managing the airspace, scheduling training events, facilitating logistics, coordinating live-virtual-constructive (LVC)-related inputs, monitoring mission execution, and participating in aircrew debriefs to ensure training objectives are met.
Candidates must meet AFMAN 13-212 (Range Planning and Operations) requirements in order to qualify. Per the AFMAN, "as a minimum, Range Training Officers must possess "rated mission expertise" in the activity being performed or have Air Battle Manager/Weapons Director experience."
