Hinterland Training, LLC is seeking a dynamic leader who wants to transition from active military service to a regenerative ranching operation. This exciting opportunity combines hands-on experience in regenerative grazing and military land management. The program is in collaboration with the Hinterland Institute, supporting the U.S. Army’s first regenerative grazing initiative at Camp San Luis Obispo, CA. Participants will engage with groundbreaking techniques in adaptive multi-paddock (AMP) grazing, soil health management, and biodiversity restoration, that ultimately lead to military training land resilience.

ABOUT THE JOB

Hinterland Training, LLC, in partnership with the Hinterland Institute offers a 90-180 day program for service members transitioning from active duty to regenerative ranching. This immersive opportunity provides hands-on training in regenerative grazing and land restoration, preparing participants to lead in agriculture's future. Based at the Regenerative Grazing Open Air Lab (R-GOAL) at Camp San Luis Obispo, CA, the program combines traditional learning with three months of practical experience. Participants will receive training in essential skills, including fencing, water system setup, livestock movement, and solar power setup. They will learn pasture management, cattle observation, and metrics collection to monitor soil health and livestock performance. Formal regenerative agriculture training will cover soil health, environmental impacts, and profitability, with expert guest lecturers. Participants will also be trained in stockmanship, supplement management, and enterprise analysis. Weekly performance reviews and formal assessments will track skill development and personal growth.In addition to fieldwork, participants will assist with policy research, explore laws and regulations related to regenerative grazing, and draft policy recommendations for military installations. They will also help prepare briefings for military leadership and contribute to data management and progress reporting. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain experience at the intersection of regenerative agriculture, policy development, and military land management.
