This training plan supports participation in the Department of War SkillBridge Program, which allows transitioning Service members to gain hands-on civilian work experience during their final period of active duty. Through this program, participants engage in full-time, real-world training aligned to industry needs while preparing for a transition to civilian employment.Under this training plan, the participant will support IT and systems administration activities in a professional environment. Training will focus on maintaining and supporting computer systems and networks, monitoring system performance, managing user access, supporting cybersecurity best practices, assisting with backups and documentation, and providing technical support to end users. The participant will also gain exposure to automation, scripting, and modern IT tools while developing communication and problem-solving skills in a team-based setting.This role is designed to build practical technical experience, reinforce foundational IT knowledge, and support the participant’s transition into an entry-level systems administration or IT support position in the civilian workforce.
The Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program offers transitioning Service members the opportunity to gain valuable civilian work experience through industry-specific training, apprenticeships, or internships during their final 180 days of active duty. In accordance with DoW Instruction 1322.29, the SkillBridge Program connects Service members with industry partners to participate in real-world job experiences. Eligible participants may be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to train full-time with approved SkillBridge partners.TQI Solutions is proud to support the DoW SkillBridge Program and currently has an opening for a Junior Systems Administrator at our headquarters in Chesapeake, VA.Responsibilities:Install, configure, and maintain hardware and software components to ensure optimal computer and network system performance.Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and perform necessary adjustments or repairs to prevent or resolve system failures.Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights to ensure secure and efficient operation of all systems and data.Implement and test network security measures, such as firewalls and encryption, to safeguard systems and information from unauthorized access or cyber threats.Conduct regular backup operations and establish appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.Document system configurations, changes, and procedures to maintain an accurate record of the technology environment and support compliance with IT policies.Assist in developing and deploying specialized scripts or tools to automate routine tasks and enhance system efficiency.Provide technical assistance and support to employees, including troubleshooting and training on new software applications.Qualifications:Experience or training in IT, computer science, or a related field; bachelor’s degree preferred.Knowledge of Windows operating systems, networking protocols, and security standards.Proficiency in Office365 applications and cloud services is a plus.Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly and professionally.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.Eagerness to learn new technologies and tools and stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in ITCurrent or ability to obtain Security + (or equivalent) and Government Security Clearance.
